Lucent

Lucent is a foundational library for Minecraft Fabric mod development.

As a general player, you do not need to understand its internal mechanisms in detail. Lucent provides common features that other mods can share, boosting development efficiency and eliminating unnecessary duplicate implementations.

Core features provided by Lucent include:

1. Graphical Rendering Engine

Provides graphics rendering powered by NanoVG and Skija.

This allows other mods to easily render custom fonts and sleek, modern UI elements.

2. Config Management System

A system to conveniently manage mod configurations.

  • Multiple configuration types supported
  • Custom HUD layout configuration
  • Shared configuration systems across multiple mods
  • AppData-based configuration storage that persists across Minecraft instances

Other mods can leverage Lucent's config system without having to implement their own.

3. Utility Functions and Event System

Provides convenient common functions and events for mod development.

It also reduces direct dependencies on Minecraft version-specific code, simplifying porting and allowing multiple mods to utilize common features efficiently.

Why Use Lucent?

Lucent's core value lies in reducing redundant implementations and unifying shared logic.

When multiple mods handle the same events or repeatedly check identical conditions, unnecessary computation can occur.

Lucent unifies shared events and related logic to minimize this redundancy. For example, performing null checks on objects like players at a shared stage eliminates the need for each individual event to repeat identical validation.

Modules can also be toggled individually, helping avoid wasteful computation for unused features.

The more mods utilize Lucent's common system, the easier it becomes to eliminate duplicate implementations and maintain a clean, consistent structure.

Differences Between Lucent and LucentClient

The two projects serve different roles:

Lucent

Lucent

A library built for developers. It does not provide standalone gameplay features for general users, but rather common foundations for other mods that depend on Lucent.

LucentClient

An integrated mod for end users, combining various utilities and performance optimizations built on top of Lucent.

General players do not need to install Lucent separately—simply installing LucentClient is sufficient.

Installation Methods

Typically, you only need to install a single file:

  • LucentClient.jar

However, the Lite edition does not bundle the Lucent library, so separate installation is required:

  • Lucent.jar + LucentClient-lite.jar

If you want to use other mods built on Lucent without LucentClient:

  • Lucent.jar + [OtherMod].jar

In summary, Lucent is the foundational library for mod development, while LucentClient is the all-in-one mod for general players.
